Hair Extensions are an investment of time and money. When it comes to taking care of yours at home it is important to strictly follow a hair care routine, this will ensure your extensions stay healthy and smooth throughout their lifespan.
-
First and most importantly your hair extensions need to receive constant daily moisture, we highly recommend using an extension friendly oil or serum. As all extensions are permanently dehydrated, a daily application of a nourishing oil will replenish the extensions so they remain smooth and easy to manage.
-
Here are the three key ingredients you must avoid on hair extensions, as they will cause irreversible damage; Protein, Sulphates & High levels of alcohol.
3. It’s important to always use extension safe shampoo & conditioner that do not have the ingredients mentioned above. When washing your hair always shampoo twice, this will assist in cleansing any build up of oils on the scalp. Use a high quality hydrating & extension safe conditioner, leave for the recommended time and rinse thoroughly.
-
Treat your hair & extensions once a week with an extension safe hydrating treatment. This will ensure the hair is receiving a large dose of moisture back into the mid lengths & ends. For a long lasting, smoother result you can permanently swap your conditioner out for a treatment.
5. Our natural hair is significantly weaker when it’s wet! Which is why it’s so important to dry your hair & extensions. After washing your hair & extensions, apply an extension friendly heat protector to the mid lengths & ends of the hair before blow drying. Always blow dry your scalp area & the bonds of your extensions to at least 80% dry. Leaving your natural hair & extensions to air dry can lead to scalp irritation & natural hair breakage.
6. A helpful tip before heading to bed at night: plait your extensions to ensure no friction or damage is caused while moving throughout the night & you will avoid waking up in the morning to any knots & tangles.
